About Will

Thank you for visiting my business page. My name is Will McSweeney and I am the owner of Good Will Painting. My journey into the painting world is perhaps unusual and not typical but it is my educational background and past professional careers that ultimately led me to establish Good Will Painting in 2017. It is these experiences that I believe have helped me not only create a successful business but also one that separates me from many others in this industry.
I was born and raised in St. Albans, Vermont. Following high school, I attended The University of Vermont (UVM) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education in 1992. After having endured the long cold winters in Vermont for 22 years, I was looking to attend graduate shool in a much warmer part of the U.S.! I moved to Austin and attended The University of Texas at Austin (UT) where I earned a Master of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology in 1996.

I was employed as an Exercise Physiologist for nearly 10 years (1995 - 2005). In this capacity, I worked at a new hospital in Austin for 2 years and then 8 years combined for the United States Air Force (USAF): 4 years as a Civil Service employee under the Department of Defense (DoD) at McGuire AFB in NJ and another 4 years as a private contractor at Brooks City-Base here in San Antonio.

In 2005, I decided to change careers and transitioned into the IT industry, where I worked in management positions for two different major companies for a combined 12 years. During these years, I found myself spending more and more time on the weekends with painting and remodeling jobs, either for myself, family members, neighbors or customers. I soon discovered the real enjoyment that I was experiencing from the nature of this work and began to entertain a transition out of the corporate business world through the establishment of a small business. In 2017, I decided to make that transition and formally established Good Will Painting.

On a personal note, I have been married to my wife Kim since 2006 and we have one son, Isaac. Kim has been an elementary school teacher for over 23 years and Isaac just graduated from high school and is enrolled to attend college in the upcoming fall semester. We also have a beloved miniature Schnauzer named Oliver. We enjoy spending time with our family & friends, regular trips to Rockport / Port Aransas, summer vacation time in Vermont, Cape Cod / Martha's Vineyard and of course relaxing at home as a family.

About Good Will Painting

I established Good Will Painting as a sole proprietorship in May of 2017. As I contemplated names for the business, I considered including my personal name in the title, but it was important to me that it was creative and catchy in nature. I have always had a fondness for the movie Good Will Hunting and this in turn is the basis for my business name.
For the first year or so, I performed all of the work myself. My original plan was to eventually hire up to 3 employees (one crew) within the first couple of years and then a 2nd crew 1-2 years after that. This would allow me to step back and spend my time managing the business, performing estimates, meeting with customers, supervising the staff and the work they were performing but not having to be involved in the day-to-day painting process itself.
I did get to the point where I had up to 3 employees (1 crew) working for Good Will Painting at one time, but unfortunately it proved to be a significant challenge of hiring and retaining individuals who had the type of work ethic, dedication, commitment to quality and customer service that I required for my business. Approximately 4 years ago I came to the realization that all of my worries, concerns and stress that I had with meeting timelines, schedule commitments, quality, communication, dedication and customer satisfaction all would be eliminated if I simply returned to doing all the work myself. Of course, this was not part of my original plan for the business, but as it has turned out, it was one of the best decisions I have made! So, for the past few years, I have gone back to performing all the work myself. In doing so, I am able to provide the very best service to my customers by controlling communication, quality of work, commitment to a schedule and most importantly, customer satisfaction.

I live in Far North San Antonio (Indian Springs community) and generally do most of my work in the Far North San Antonio areas, as well as Bulverde, Spring Branch and Boerne. This is not to say that I am not willing to travel to other locations. I have done work in New Braunfels, Far West San Antonio, Cibolo, Converse, Selma, Schertz, Seguin, and many other areas. I have even done jobs in Rockport and Marble Falls.
